Story From Carey's mom,

Well I will start by telling you about my sweet Carey. She was a normal 10 year old little girl  having fun over summer break. She  went on vacation July 20  with a Friend to the beach and became sick. When she returned home she still did not feel well. I took her to the emergency room on that Saturday and the treated her for a virus and told us to follow up with our family doctor. Well we did on Friday because she became sick again. He sent us back to the emergency room because he thought it was her appendix. They did a CT scan and thought they saw a blockage in her colon. They sent us in the ambulance to the Levine's children's hospital to do further test. We were there until Sunday and they sent us home because they said the thought it was a virus also. We went home and her symptoms returned on Thursday. So here we went right back to the children's hospital. They stared doing another CT scan and xrays. Needless to say this time we were there to stay for awhile until they could tell us what was going on. This was August 6th. We had to stay the weekend because they had consulted a Pediatric Gastrologist Doctor. She came and spoke with me and said that she wanted to do an EGD and a Colonoscopy on Monday. We did and she came out and told me that she foun a 30mm size tumor in Carey's colon. And that she did a biopsy on it and put a rush to the path lab to get the results fast. Well it was fast on Tuesday August 11 she came back to see us and brought another doctor with her and wanted to discuss her pathology report with me but she wanted me to go to the conference room to do this. As we were walking down the hall she told me that there was a doctor in the room that wanted to talk to me and that he was an Oncologist. My heart fell at that moment. He discussed everything with me and said the first thing we would do would be surgery very soon. So on Friday August 14 she under went a 6 hour surgery to remove the tumor and to resect her colon back together. The surgeon also took a few lymph nodes out to see if it had spread. We had to wait all weekend and Monday to find out about the stage of the cancer and if it had spread. Well on Tuesday here came more doctors and the Oncologist back for the news. And once again bad news and in my mind I thought how much more can I TAKE!! He told us it was stage 4 and it had spread to her lymph nodes. They did not know how they were going to treat this because it is so rare in children. I mean you don't normally get screened for this until you are 50. I thought I would die before I could get out of that room. I felt like I was in a bad dream and somebody needed to wake me up. I did leave for a minute and I just ran as fast as I could down the hall to the elevator and down to the 1st floor and hit the outside door as fast as I could. I just could not breathe couldn't think I thought I just want to run away. Somebody please tell me why and all I could think was it is not fair and not my sweet child Carey!! Well after awhile I went back in to the room and Carey just said she wanted to go home she was tired of being in the hospital by this time we had been there two weeks. So her doctor said he needed to place a hickman in her and we could go home for a little while. So we did that the next day and then we left. We had a follow up visit the next week. The oncologist took that week to discuss Carey's treatment with a team of adult Oncologist since this was an adult cancer. They came up with a plan for her. This was that she would do treatments in the hospital every 14 days for about two to three days for six months. We started the treatments last Thursday October 1st  at 8:30 am and it lasted until Saturday at 2:45 pm. She is a brave and strong little girl she did so good did not even get sick. I am so proud of her!! I just want everyone who reads her page to keep praying everyday for her healing. I know with JESUS ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE IF WE JUST BELIEVE AND TRUST IN HIM!!And I am believing for her healing!!! And pray for strength for me so that I can continue to be strong for her.
